Franklin History – A Skiing Destination

Did you know Franklin used to have its very own ski area? It’s true!

From 1967 to 2000, the northeastern slope of Oak Hill in south Franklin was home to a small ski area called Klein Innsbruck. With several trails, chairlifts, night skiing, and even snowmaking capabilities, Klein Innsbruck provided the Franklin area with some great winter entertainment for decades. Unfortunately, financial issues caused Klein Innsbruck to shut down for good in 2000, and its lower slopes are now home to the Villages at Oak Hill, a 55+ luxury condo complex. Klein Innsbruck hasn’t been entirely forgotten, though – the main street of the Villages at Oak Hill is called Innsbruck Way in its honor. Just a fun little fact about Franklin!
